For every woman who learned to shrink to fit –
yet still carries a fire that refuses to go out.

When the career you built no longer fits, a deeper question emerges.

Liberation – Breaking Free from the Storm of Stuckness is the first book in Fearless and Free after Fifty, a grounded roadmap for courageous women in midlife navigating transition – whether their career ending is chosen, or arrived without asking.

With real stories, clarity, insight, reflection, and practical tools, Liberation supports you to release what no longer serves you and to reconnect with your inner resources, freedom, and direction.

You may recognise yourself here if:

  • Your career once fit, but no longer does – and you’re asking questions like “Is this really it?” or “If I stop, who am I then?”
  • You’ve poured decades into a successful career, and whether by choice or by force, that chapter is coming to an end – leaving you uncertain about what’s next.
  • On the outside, you look competent and strong, while inside you feel restless, numb, exhausted, or quietly undone.
  • You’re tired of feeding what’s depleting you, yet you don’t see a clear or honest way forward.
  • The idea of “reinventing yourself” feels both tempting and overwhelming at the same time.
  • You sense that this is more than a career change – it’s a deeper transition of identity, meaning, and inner freedom.
  • You’re craving honest guidance that respects your intelligence, not a quick-fix or cliché “follow your passion” speech.

If this lands, Liberation was written with you in mind.

What Liberation Helps You Do

Liberation offers you a pause – a steady space between an ending and a beginning. Not to rush you forward, but to help you regain clarity, calm the inner storm, and listen inward before choosing what comes next. It helps you to:

Calm the emotional storm
Understand what’s unfolding inside when a long chapter ends – and learn how to stay steady instead of being pulled under.

Untangle who you are from what you’ve done
Release identity from title and role, and reconnect with who you are beyond performance and expectation.

Navigate uncertainty with more self-trust
Find ways of orienting yourself that don’t rely on overthinking, perfectionism, or constant proving.

Prepare the ground for what comes next
Gently lay foundations for a new chapter that honours your values, energy, and season of life.

Liberation is not about reinvention yet – it’s about releasing what no longer serves you, so whatever follows can grow from truth rather than exhaustion.

A Look Inside Liberation

Liberation follows your journey from the first cracks in an old life, through the emotional
earthquake of ending, into the space where new possibilities can take root.
It’s not a linear “how-to”, but a companion through a real transition.

How this book meets you
Liberation is built from a blend of lived experience and practical guidance.

You’ll find:

  • Real stories of women who went through the storm
Women who resigned, were made redundant, fell ill, burned out, or retired – and had
to face who they were when their old role no longer held. Their stories offer
recognition, relief, and the quiet realisation: this isn’t just me.
  • Reflections that help you make sense of what’s happening
Gentle, honest reflections that name the emotional undercurrents of transition – grief,
relief, fear, anger, hope – without judgement or pressure to “move on”.
  • Grounded insights and simple frameworks
Clear ways of understanding identity shifts, inner resistance, fear, and freedom – so the chaos starts to form a map.
  • Practical tools and exercises
Short practices woven through the chapters, helping you pause, notice, and begin making small shifts in how you relate to yourself and your situation.

This combination allows you to recognise yourself in others, understand your own experience more clearly, and take steps forward at your own pace.

Companion Toolkits for Readers

Alongside the book, you can access downloadable Companion Toolkits that help you bring what you’re reading into your own life. They offer simple practices, reflections, and tools to help you pause, steady yourself, and apply the insights of Liberation to your own situation.

The toolkits are designed to support you as you move through the book – not as a
replacement, but as a companion to it.

I am Iris Rousseeu, a mentor, coach, and guide for ambitious women navigating midlife transitions. I support women who are ready to step out of roles that no longer fit and into lives shaped by freedom, meaning, and authentic alignment.

After three decades in corporate leadership, I chose to leave a successful career to create a more authentic and peaceful way of living, working and leading. As a mother of three and founder of 4happierwork, I bring both lived experience and grounded insight to my work.

Liberation is not theory. It reflects the questions I have lived, the storms I have navigated, and the freedom I have consciously chosen. And today, I walk alongside other women as they do the same – at their own pace, in their own way.

Questions You May Have

Here are a few practical questions about Liberation and Fearless and Free after Fifty that often come up at this point, offered to help you decide, at your own pace.

  • Is this only for women over fifty?
No. While the book speaks most directly to women around midlife, it’s for anyone who recognises themselves in the questions and themes it explores. If it speaks to you, it’s for you, regardless of your age and gender.
  • Is this a “how to quit your job” book?
No. Some readers will leave their roles, some will stay and change the way they relate to their work and power. The focus is on your inner transition and honest next steps, not on a single external outcome.
  • I’m still working in a corporate role. Will this be “too soft” for me?
The book is grounded, practical, and respectful of the realities of complex careers. It doesn’t romanticise reinvention, and it honours both your ambition and your humanity.
  • Can I recommend this to someone younger / in a different life situation?
Yes. If you know someone who is questioning an old identity or career path, the book can still be relevant, even if they’re younger, a man, a business owner, or on any career path.
  • Is the book available in other languages?
Not yet, but likely in the future. However, I speak fluent Dutch and French myself and can support you in those languages.
  • Is there a community or further support linked to the book?
For some readers, the book and toolkits are enough. For others, there will be options to go further — such as extended toolkits, small-group programs, community membership, or private mentoring. If you’d like to be informed about those, you can send an email to iris@fearlessandfreeafterfifty or book a free connection call below.

My question is not in the list…
I will be happy to answer your questions. You can either email them to me via iris@fearlessandfreeafterfifty.com, or book a free connection call below.
